Costa Rica

Cost Rica is situated in Central America . It has a total area of 51,100 km2. Its climate can be divided in two categories: tropical; dry season (December to April); rainy season (May to November). Although in terms of land it's very small it contains 6% of the world's biodiversity, including Coco's Island situated in the Pacific, 532 Km (331 mi.) southwest of Cabo Blanco.

The climate in Costa Rica changes throughout the regions. Although the country is very small there are drastic transformations due to the irregular geography and altitude difference.

It has a democratic republic, divided in 7 provinces, Alajuela, Cartago, Guanacaste, Heredia, Limon, Puntarenas, San Jose.

Costa Rica has an enforced law to protect its nature, biodiversity and endangered species. We care for our nature, based on the idea of “sustainable development”. Our national parks, volcanoes and beaches are protected by the government assuring their long lasting existence for future generations.

We also have a great number of volcanoes because of being situated in the Ring of Fire, a zone of frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The most important are Rincón de la Vieja, Miravalles, Poas, Turrialba, Iraza, Arenal. This last one is active all year long with continious eruptions.

Costa Rica is the country with more protected areas proportional to its size in the world. The National Conservation Areas System protects more than 186 areas, divided in 32 national parks, eight biological reserves, 13 forest reserves, and 51 wildlife refuges.

Since the 19th century only two brief periods have been shred with blood, in 1856 and 1948, both brief periods of time.

Costa Rica it's also one of the only countries with no military since the civil revolution of 1948, abolished by José Figueres Ferrer. Known for its peaceful people around the world it's no secret Costa Rica is visited so much by people all around the world.
